Whitehorse Film Club Presents
The Life & Death of Colonel Blimp

TUESDAY 22nd December 7.30
The Bar Below
West Terrace
Folkestone, CT20 1TH
Hello Everyone!
What to say about Powell and Pressburger? To me they have an Englishness that is romantic and modern at once, maybe that is the blend of Man of Kent Powell and Hungarian Pressburger, who found his way to England after persecution in Europe, and got to know England with an outsiders eyes.....together they made some of the most interesting and ravishing films of the 40's & 50's - A Matter of Life & Death, The Red Shoes, A Canterbury Tale.....
So to Blimp: Portrayed in warm-hearted detail the life and loves of one extraordinary man, General Clive Wynne-Candy, a blustering old duffer who seems the epitome of stuffy, outmoded values. Traveling backwards 40 years we see a different man altogether: the young and dashing officer "Sugar" Candy. Through a series of relationships with three women and his lifelong friendship with a German officer, we see Candy's life unfold and come to understand how difficult it is for him to adapt his sense of military honor to modern notions of "total war."
If you have never seen it please treat yourselves, if Clive Wynn Candy is an old friend, come and fall for him all over again!!
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DAY FOR THIS MONTH!!
Diva Treats seasonal goodies will be available to buy and we will be showing a short film before hand as usual.
