NFTS FILM ‘STANLEY PICKLE’ BECOMES MOST AWARDED FILM IN ITS HISTORY AND ITS DIRECTOR IS SELECTED FOR BAFTA ACCOLADE

The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is celebrating as student and director, Victoria Mather’s film Stanley Pickle has now won 25 international awards, making it the most awarded film in the 40 year history of the NFTS. In addition, Victoria Mather has been selected as one of the 42 British Film Makers for BAFTA’s ‘Brits to Watch’, which will take her an event in Los Angeles attended by HRH The Duke and HRH The Duchess of Cambridge.

Stanley Pickleis a short animation made in 2010 at the NFTS and the 25 international awards have followed in quick succession since its premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival, where it won the McLaren Award. Other awards have been picked up in Chicago, New York, LA, Dinard, France, the Raindance Film Festival in London and, just yesterday, the film was chosen for a further accolade in Slovakia. Yet more awards could follow as the film continues to go from strength to strength on the festival circuit.

NFTS student and Stanley Pickle Director, Victoria Mather, said, “We have been incredibly lucky with Stanley Pickle on the festival circuit. It was a large and risky project and I am so grateful that the NFTS allowed me to make it. I genuinely loved every moment and the feedback from festivals and audiences has been extremely encouraging for the crew and me. It’s a tremendous honour to be selected by BAFTA as New British Talent, I’m really looking forward to the event!”

NFTS Director, Nik Powell said, “It’s not just the quantity of awards but the type and quality of the awards Stanley pickle has won and more importantly the quality of the film itself. Winning Best experimental Film in LA for instance shows that NFTS students are not only winning awards (including a BAFTA mask and Oscar nominations this year) but also making films which really do push the boundaries.”
