When it comes to the greatest ever British Gangster Film there can only be one winner, John Mackenzie’s THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY. Starring Bob Hoskins as the no nonsense gangland boss Harold Shand, Helen Mirren as his cool, classy partner Victoria, Derek Thompson (who should have gone on the better things than Casualty) as his right hand man Jeff and featuring future 007 Pierce Brosnan and a teenage Dexter Fletcher.
If you have ever checked-out our 25 Best British Gangster Films you will know we love The Long Good Friday and so we are excited to say a newly restored 2K version will be will be re-released on Blu-Ray/DVD 4th may 2015 and in cinemas 19th June 2015 curtesy of Arrow Films.
Scanned from the original camera negative, with framing and colour grading supervised by the original cinematographer Phil Méheux, thousands of instances of dirt, debris and light scratches removed through a combination of digital restoration tools. Image stability, density fluctuation and other picture issues were also improved. The film’s original mono soundtrack was transferred from the original magnetic reels, and audio issues such as bumps, clicks and audible buzz were repaired, minimised, or removed.
The Long Good Friday will be screening as a curtain-raiser for the BFI’s London on Film season from 19th June through to 8th July 2015, the season begins in July and runs through to early October.
The Long Good Friday will be released on Blu-Ray & DVD 4th May 2015 and also available in a Steelbook or as a Limited Edition Box Set including Mona Lisa and an Exclusive Bonus disc.
