IBZ is a reckless and truthful account of a volcanic holiday romance on the white party isle, Ibiza. Fuelled by ecstasy and Ecstasy, IBZ is all the things you want to say and all the things you never should.
IBZ is inspired by true events and is has an original electronic soundtrack created by DJ and producer Alexandra Milne, with additional music from MC Devvo & Alex Lamy. IBZ had its first public screening in London in March and is part of the Short Film Corner at Cannes Film Festival, 2017.
IBZ’s journey began 5 years ago when Kat Ronson was inspired by a very eventful summer ‘working’ in Ibiza as a love-struck 19-year old. IBZ is inspired by true events, stories, moments encountered by myself and others throughout my time there. I returned filled to the brim with many things but mostly creativity, heartbreak and a life-changing yearn to protect women, to be some kind of voice. I wrote a 45-minute one-woman show but it really has come to its true beauty and rawness in film form.
IBZ is a unique filmic-music collaboration, the soundtrack is basically a whole character in itself. Alexandra Milne was added to the mix to write an original soundtrack, to create a sound capturing our life out in Ibiza. We met while we were working out there, having indulged in many a 1-euro-sangria-carton-filled night.

Director Matthew Rowney commnets: I saw IBZ the one-woman stage show and both Kat Ronson and I agreed it was too unique to stop with a stage show. We wanted to collaborate and a one-woman film was something we’d both never seen. We wanted to really give the sense of Kat’s experience in Ibiza so jet off filming it abroad. We stayed true to the original vision whilst reimagining scenes to take it from being a stage performance set in one location to moving through this character’s chaotic holiday romance.
