🎬 Synopsis: NORTHERN SOUL: STILL BURNING charts how the Northern Soul movement grew out of working-class communities in the North and Midlands during the late 1960s and 1970s, built around youth culture, rare American soul records and high-energy dancing. The documentary looks at its roots, the legendary all-nighters at Wigan Casino, and the roles played by music, DJs, dance, drugs, politics, class and fashion in sustaining the scene across the decades.
With rare and restored archive footage, the film also explores how newer generations of dancers and DJs are continuing to reshape the culture. The press release confirms a UK cinema release from 1 May 2026, a 95-minute runtime (TBC) and Alan Byron as director.

The film stars Olivia Taylor Dudley, Lou Taylor Pucci and Jordan Gavaris, and was produced by John Humber and David Lawson Jr. It had its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, with the UK premiere following at Abertoir Horror Festival, before additional festival play including SXSW, Fantasia and Sitges. Lightbulb Film Distribution has set the UK and Ireland Digital and Blu-ray release for 4 May 2026.
