At the age of 38, Victoria Mapplebeck found herself single, pregnant, and broke. Unable to return to her TV directing career, she turned the camera on herself and her son, Jim. Over two decades, she documented the highs and lows of parenting alone, capturing the moments that defined both their lives—from her breast cancer diagnosis to Jim’s coming of age.
MOTHERBOARD is a funny, raw, and deeply relatable portrait of modern family life, revealing the chaos, closeness, and candour that come with raising a child solo. The film defies expectations of what a parenting documentary can be—offering honesty instead of sentimentality, humour instead of pity, and truth instead of perfection.
