BFI Distribution has released the official trailer and poster for 'ISLANDS,' the tense psychological thriller from director Jan-Ole Gerster ('Lara,' 'A Coffee in Berlin'). Starring Sam Riley, Stacy Martin, and Jack Farthing, the film will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on 12 September 2025, with a BFI Player release on 27 October 2025.
Synopsis: Tom (Sam Riley), a former professional tennis player, now works as a coach at an all-inclusive hotel in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands. What once seemed like a dream of endless summers has turned into a monotonous routine, filled with fleeting affairs and alcohol. When mysterious guests Anne (Stacy Martin) and Dave (Jack Farthing) arrive with their young son, they break the usual pattern of tourist life. Tom grows close to them — until Dave vanishes without a trace and Anne’s behaviour becomes increasingly erratic.
Premiering to critical acclaim at the Berlin Film Festival, and set for its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, 'ISLANDS' is a gripping neo-noir exploring disconnection, self-destruction, and mystery, set against the stunning volcanic landscapes of the Canary Islands.
