Watch the official trailer for 'CHAPERONE', an award-winning Hawai‘i-set romantic drama from writer/director Zoë Eisenberg. Set in rural Hawai‘i and featuring an entirely AANHPI cast, the film explores identity, expectation, and the risks of seeking comfort in unconventional connections
Synopsis: 29-year-old Misha Miyamoto (Mitzi Akaha) lives alone in the house her grandmother left her, has held the same job since high school, and likes her life as it is: simple. Her satisfaction disappoints everyone around her—her boss can’t fathom why she won’t take a promotion, potential partners are put off by her lack of ambition, and her parents want her to sell the house. Feeling alienated by these pressures, Misha finds comfort in Jake (Laird Akeo), an earnest 18-year-old who mistakes her for a high-school student. As their relationship develops, so does Misha’s reckless behaviour.
