MUBI has confirmed that Kelly Reichardt’s latest film, 'THE MASTERMIND', will stream exclusively on MUBI from 12 December 2025.
Written and directed by Reichardt, the film is set in a quiet Massachusetts suburb in 1970 and follows unemployed family man and amateur art thief J.B. Mooney as he plans his first museum heist. With the museum surveyed and accomplices recruited, Mooney believes he has constructed an airtight plan — though reality may prove otherwise. The film offers a textured look at the era while exploring themes of illusion and disillusionment.
'THE MASTERMIND' stars Josh O’Connor, Alana Haim, John Magaro, Gaby Hoffmann, Hope Davis, and Bill Camp.
The film premiered in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where Reichardt received a Best Director nomination, and Josh O’Connor was nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance at the Gotham Awards.
In February 2026, MUBI Editions will publish THE MASTERMIND – MUBI Editions Book, a four-booklet box set featuring reflections, photographs and production materials documenting the making of the film. Pre-orders are available at MUBIEDITIONS.COM.
