The debut feature from Damcove Films, ‘JAMES’, will have its UK Premiere at the 33rd Raindance Film Festival, screening on Saturday 22 June and Sunday 23 June 2025 at Vue Piccadilly, London.
Winner of Best Film at the 2024 Oldenburg Film Festival, ‘JAMES’ is an unconventional, darkly comic character study that blends existential drama with visual experimentation. Directed by Matt Thompson, the film follows a nihilist in East Vancouver who finds fleeting purpose after rescuing a discarded racing bike—only to spiral again when it’s stolen by a cunning collector.
Shot in 4:3 with hoser-noir aesthetics and influences from silent cinema, ‘JAMES’ explores themes of cultural dislocation, obsession, and meaning-making in the underground fringe.
