A Blend of Folklore and Cosmic Terror
Director Dan Bowhers explains:
“When writing the movie, we sought a balance between folklore and cosmic horror. Something that felt a bit like a local legend, but with ties to a reality that exists beyond science. We wanted to force the rational characters to delve into the unknown.”
The story follows Jonathan Rust, an archaeology professor struggling to prepare for the coming semester. Together with a colleague, a teaching assistant, an old friend, and a hired labourer, he searches for a suitable dig site for the department’s fieldwork course.
What begins as an academic expedition soon spirals into a nightmare when one of the team mysteriously disappears. The group’s search leads them to a terrifying intersection between reality and the afterlife, plunging them into a descent into madness.
