Trailer for ‘FIGHT LIKE A GIRL’ has arrived ahead of the film’s UK cinema release on 22 May 2026, with a premiere that evening at Genesis Cinema in London.
Directed by Matthew Leutwyler, the award-winning boxing drama stars Ama Qamata and Hakeem Kae-Kazim. Set in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, the film follows a young woman who escapes forced labour in an illegal mine and finds strength, identity and community through a women’s boxing club created for survivors of war and violence.
Shot entirely on location in Goma and North Kivu, the film blends scripted storytelling with documentary realism and features real women whose lived experiences reflect those on screen. Inspired by the life of Balezi “Kibomango” Bagunda, the film also stands as a tribute to his legacy.
Distributed in the UK by Underground Slate, ‘FIGHT LIKE A GIRL’ has received strong festival recognition, including eight nominations at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, winning Best Original Music, alongside multiple audience awards.
