Shogun Films has announced 'LIONHEART', a new British crime thriller from the UK-based indie genre studio, as part of a renewed focus on British crime stories.
The film follows a once-notorious elderly London gangster who is fatally mugged for his watch. His criminal son, living in exile on the continent, is drawn back to London to reassemble his old crew and seek revenge on the perpetrators and the people behind them.
'LIONHEART' is being developed by Shogun Films founder Jonathan Sothcott, whose credits in the British crime and action space include 'WE STILL KILL THE OLD WAY', 'WHITE COLLAR HOOLIGAN', 'VENDETTA', 'TOP DOG', 'FALL OF THE ESSEX BOYS', 'RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER' and 'BONDED BY BLOOD'.
Dominic Philpot, whose credits include 'GUY FAWKES: BLOOD & FIRE', is writing the screenplay. Shogun Films has indicated that the intention is to cast the film with actors associated with the 1990s generation of British screen talent.
Shogun’s new crime slate also includes 'KILLER INSTINCT', a gritty action thriller written by Simon Cluett. The story follows a European special forces soldier who enters an underground fighting tournament in an attempt to save his sister from a human trafficking ring.
Founded by Jonathan Sothcott in 2020, Shogun Films has produced a range of low-budget indie genre films including 'NEMESIS', 'RENEGADES', 'HELLOWEEN' and the forthcoming 'KNIGHTFALL'.
Filming on 'LIONHEART' is expected to begin in early 2027.
