'ELECTRIC MEAT', the new surreal psychosexual thriller from writer-director Dan Schaffer, will have its World Premiere at Tubi FrightFest 2026 on Friday 28 August. Tickets
Directed by comic book artist and writer Schaffer, whose previous credits include 'THE SCRIBBLER', 'DOGHOUSE' and 'PERIPHERAL', the film stars Caspian Faye, Emily Booth, Nina Courson, Jasmine Sumner and Sylvia Soska.
A photographer working a day job as a butcher finds one of his models murdered in an alley. Comfortable around dead meat, he decides to keep her around as his muse to help his failing career.
But he becomes convinced that she is somehow both alive and dead, like Schrödinger’s cat. As she changes from a posable doll to a vengeful revenant, the Butcher’s source of inspiration becomes his darkest fear.
He turns to his landlady, an ex-model with a grudge, who is dangerous, unhinged and ready to take his work in a whole new psychotic direction.
Commenting on the film’s Official Selection at Tubi FrightFest, director and writer Dan Schaffer said:
“It’s a thrill to have the world premiere of 'ELECTRIC MEAT' on our home turf in London at one of the world’s leading horror festivals. FrightFest has long championed bold and innovative genre cinema and we’re honoured to have 'ELECTRIC MEAT' become part of that tradition.”
Schaffer describes 'ELECTRIC MEAT' as an exploration of the thin line between life and meat, with the film questioning what happens when love and art are corrupted by desperation, delusion and conformity.
The film is told through the fractured perspective of a failed artist working as a butcher, with expressionist black-and-white cinematography and a soundscape shaped by anxiety. There is no dialogue, with the sound design carrying the film’s atmosphere.
According to Schaffer, 'ELECTRIC MEAT' draws on influences including early Lynch, Bergman, Tsukamoto and Murnau, alongside silent-era German Expressionist cinema.
