Metis Films will release 'BABYSTAR', the biting satirical drama from director Joscha Bongard, in UK and Irish cinemas from September 25, 2026.
The film follows Luca, a teenage girl who lives in a big house with loving parents and millions of followers on social media. From the outside, she appears to have everything a teenager could wish for, but Luca has never chosen that life.
Being an influencer is the family business, and her parents make it clear that she must play her part to keep the sponsors coming.
When her parents plan to extend the family, a crisis begins to loom. Luca just wants to remain “special”, but is she still the only babystar, or is she as expendable as her last Instagram story?
Written by Joscha Bongard and Nicole Rüthers, 'BABYSTAR' stars Maja Bons, Bea Brocks, Liliom Lewald, Joy Ewulu, Maximilian Mundt and Verena Altenberger.
The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and has drawn comparisons to the work of Yorgos Lanthimos and Ruben Östlund.
'BABYSTAR' is presented in German with English subtitles, has a runtime of 98 minutes, and is rated 12A by the BBFC.
