Directed by Mitch Jenkins, the period romance is set in Mauritius in 1925 and follows recently orphaned Lucy, who is sent to live with her charming but controlling uncle.
When Lucy defies his plans to marry her off for financial gain, she falls in love with Krishna, a local labourer. Their relationship puts them in conflict with a world determined to keep them apart.
The film is based on the novel The Prisoner of Paradise by Romesh Gunesekera and inspired by the lives of Alan and Maria Govinden.
