'SUBHYSTERIA 2026', an expanded new version of the 2010 independent thriller, will be released on Tubi and additional AVOD platforms from August 16, 2026, via Breaking Glass Pictures.
Directed by Venezuelan filmmaker Leonard Zelig, the film places sixteen strangers from different backgrounds and social classes inside a New York City subway car, where they become trapped for days with no communication, no escape and no contact with the outside world.
As their confinement continues and the possibility of death becomes increasingly real, fear and desperation begin to transform the group.
The film takes an unconventional approach to its performances, using improvisation rather than relying entirely on traditionally scripted dialogue. The actors developed their dialogue and interactions within the framework of the story, placing the focus on human behaviour under extreme circumstances.
'SUBHYSTERIA 2026' expands and updates the original film for a new audience while retaining the central premise of placing ordinary people in an extraordinary situation and observing what happens as the possibility of survival begins to disappear.
