Freestyle Digital Media has acquired the dark comedy 'I HATE MYSELF AND WANT TO DIE', with a North American digital release set for October 6, 2026 and a limited US theatrical run beginning two days later.
Written and directed by J. Davis, the film follows Jacob, an unrealized artist who returns home to the desert after being dumped and plans to quietly end his life. Instead, one interruption after another gets in the way.
His mother needs a ride to the drugstore, his cousin needs someone to talk to and his best friend just wants to get high. Over a chaotic night of parties, fistfights and car chases, Jacob is forced to reconsider both his life and the decision he thought he had already made.
The film stars Mike Castle ('BREWS BROTHERS'), Ali Gallo ('THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS'), Andre Hyland ('BARRY'), Meredith Salenger ('LAKE PLACID') and Leonora Pitts ('FOR ALL MANKIND').
'I HATE MYSELF AND WANT TO DIE' world premiered at the Austin Film Festival, where additional screenings were added following sold-out shows. It later screened at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Chattanooga Film Festival, RiverRun International Film Festival and Wilmington International Film Festival, where it won Best Feature.
Freestyle Digital Media will release the film on digital HD internet, cable and satellite platforms across North America on October 6.
A limited theatrical release will then begin with a special screening at Vidiots in Los Angeles on October 8, moderated by filmmaker and actor Jay Duplass. Further theatrical dates and cities are expected to be announced.
The film marks J. Davis's return to independent feature filmmaking following 'MANSON FAMILY VACATION', which starred Duplass and later debuted on Netflix.
