'THINK OF ENGLAND', a provocative new British World War II drama thriller from BAFTA-nominated writer-director Richard Hawkins, will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on November 6, 2026 through Tull Stories.
Set during the summer of 1943, the film is inspired by the enduring rumour that Churchill's government commissioned pornographic films to boost troop morale during the Second World War.
Six very different people are sent to the Orkney Islands to create a series of clandestine films for the war effort — one for the Army, one for the Navy and one for the Air Force.
The group includes psychologically damaged former movie star Corporal Harry Evans, played by Jack Bandeira; aspiring actress and munitions worker Holly Spurring, played by Natalie Quarry; and German-Jewish refugee filmmaker Max Meyer, played by Ben Bela Böhm.
They are joined by John McCrea as Ministry of Information officer Captain Anthony Clune and Ronni Ancona as veteran hair and make-up artist Agnes Duprée. As filming progresses, personalities clash, hidden histories emerge and the group are forced to confront questions of morality, censorship, power, performance and duty.
'THINK OF ENGLAND' premiered in Official Competition at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in 2025, where it won Best Production Design. Its UK premiere at Glasgow Film Festival was followed by screenings at Manchester Film Festival and London's Raindance Film Festival.
The film is produced by Nick O'Hagan and Poppy O'Hagan of Giant Films, with cinematography by Sarah Cunningham. Geoffrey Freeman provided the story and serves as executive producer.
