'THE DATE', an intimate new British minimalist thriller from director Alex Barrett, will receive its World Premiere at the 67th Thessaloniki International Film Festival on November 7, 2026.
Starring Jazmín Falak, the film follows an Argentinian single mum living in London as she prepares for her first date in years.
Filled with nervous energy and anticipation, Jazmín wonders what the day will bring, but as the minutes pass, events do not unfold as she had hoped.
Told through a series of carefully composed, unbroken takes and with minimal dialogue, 'THE DATE' explores loneliness, heartbreak, the need for connection and the invisible emotional wounds people carry.
Barrett describes the film as a minimalist thriller designed to grip the viewer through human emotion rather than conventional external action.
The film was shot on location across South London in just four days, with its long-take approach designed to keep the audience closely connected to Jazmín's experience.
Alex Barrett directed and edited the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Áine O'Neill-Mason. It was produced by Maria Caruana Galizia and Julie Foy, whose producing credits include the Academy Award-winning short 'THE SILENT CHILD'.
'THE DATE' will screen as part of Thessaloniki International Film Festival's new Taming Time strand, dedicated to films exploring unconventional approaches to the moving image.
The World Premiere takes place on November 7, 2026 at 19:00 at the Takis Kanellopoulos venue. The film will also be available through the AGORA Festival Platform.
